Parking garage Circus equipped with RentAlite’s LED lighting

Multiple car parks in the city of Groningen are being equipped with LED lighting. Students of the Alpha College just replaced 1800 fixtures in the car park Boterdiep and now working on the re-lighting of the Circus car park. For the electrical engineering students it is a learning-work project.
The municipality of Groningen wants to save significantly on energy and Co2 and wants to achieve the 2020 target. Apart from energy, the municipality also saves money on maintenance. Now they have to replace daily 5 to 10 fluorescent tubes. With the new LED fixtures this belongs to the past because these lamps have a much longer optimized lifespan of 100.000 hours (11 years with 24/7 lighting).
By switching to LED with a 1 to 1 replacement in the car park an average lux level of 104 lux and a uniformity of 0.4 are being achieved with a saving of 79% on energy and C02 compared to the current T8 fluorescent lighting. A number of the fixtures will be provided with an integrated battery for emergency lighting.

Car park Houtwal in Harderwijk (The Netherlands) received the award for car park of exceptional quality: the European Standard Parking Award, or the ESPA Gold Award.
The ESPA Gold Award, given by the European Parking Association (EPA), has been created to distinguish from the standard car parks through excellence, which every garage should meet.

The underground car park is round and can accommodate 450 vehicles. In the middle of the car park there is a large glass roof that creates daylight up to the bottom, more than 21 meters below the surface. The parking layers have the shape of a spiral and lie around the light shaft, which has a diameter of 12 meters. A separate lane has been made for leaving the car park around the light shaft that leads vehicles without obstacles to the exit.
During the excavation work, remains of an ancient city have been discovered. These have been restored and are on display on the lower level of the parking garage. The garage is equipped with energy-efficient, dimmable LED lighting from RentaLite. In total there are 650 LED fixtures that have four different types of light strengths: 30, 25, 20 and 15 watts with an optimized lifespan and C02 reduction. Furthermore, the garage is equipped with a sprinkler system.

In the historic heart of The Hague Downtown, between the Parliament and the US Embassy, one of the most complex underground construction projects is being realized in the Netherlands.

This development of the Develop Combination PTV, a collaboration between SENS real estate and Dura Vermeer Infra is being build since July 2015 by Dura Vermeer Concrete and Hydraulic Engineering. Interparking the Netherlands is the future owner of the garage. For The Hague this development offers the opportunity to give the area around the tournament field, the gateway to the city, a quality boost.
With Interparking as future parking operator the car park will be the most advanced car park in the Netherlands so far with tools such as an internal parking guidance system, online booking, full-free signaling per parking spot, energy saving LED lighting and Eco parking. With Eco Parking, visitors with an energy label A or a 100% electric car, get reduced parking fees. These techniques are also used in the car park of the Market Hall in Rotterdam. This car park recently won the European Parking Association’s award for the best new car park in Europe.
Rentalite developed a beautiful LED Line system, the Premium Power interval Line, that has been installed in the Museumkwartier parking garage in the Hague. The aluminum line is equipped with 35W and 25W LED fixtures to achieve an average of 100 lux in the parking garage with minimum power consumption per square meter. The total length of all aluminum LED lines is 1100 meters with 260 fixtures installed in the line. In addition to the fixtures installed in the line there are 31 stand alone fixtures installed.
Rentalite applied the newest LED chips in the fixtures, making the efficiency of the lighting optimal. The net lumen per watt of the fixtures applied is 140, which is the most energy efficient technology at the moment.
The energy and CO2 savings, due to the application of Rentalite’s LED lighting in combination with switching the LED lights by motion sensors, will be about 60% compared to conventional lighting.

Car park Boterdiep in Groningen (The Netherlands) has been equipped for the past six months with a completely new lighting system. The new lighting reduces CO2 emissions by more than 4.632 million kilos!

That’s about the amount of CO2 that 171. 560 trees convert into oxygen in one year. This significant reduction is achieved by changing the 1703 fixtures with fluorescent tubes by specially developed LED luminaires for car parks from RentaLite. The massive task has been realized by a cooperation of the Parking Company of the municipality of Groningen, Gresco, RentAlite, installation firm CroonWolter & Dros and students of the Alpha college. For the last cooperation partner the municipality created internships at two different levels. Therefore also Social Return was part of the project.
Next to the C02- reduction the new fixtures also create a 75% reduction on energy. In monetary terms this results in around € 23.000 per year. The applied LED strips have a lifespan up to 100,000 hours, which in theory is more than 12 years that the LED strips can operate day and night. This will result in a total saving of € 276.000 in 12 years.
In practice, the expected lifespan and savings will be even higher. By ways of smart switching the lights by the car park management system, the lights will not have to operate continuously. At the moment 6 car parks in Groningen are equipped with this type of special LED lighting, the PPL Next, from RentaLite.

UTRECHT – This summer, the new car park Vredenburg opens. The parking supply in the city will be greatly expanded with 1,272 parking spaces.

Remarkably is that the car park goes five floors into the ground. The waterproof layer is 60 meters deep. The garage is built with a so-called top-down method, a unique method whereby simultaneously upwards and downwards building is being done. The great advantage of this is that the building time was limited to only one and a half years.
Modern facilities
The garage has a find-your-car system so you never have to look for your car. There are nine charging stations for electric cars, including 4 quick charging points. In addition, all parking spaces are equipped with a parking guidance system so you can quickly see where there are free spots (red or green light). Additionally the car park will save significantly on energy consumption and Co2 emissions because the garage is fully equipped with RentAlite’s LED lights. The light will turn off automatically at times when there is no light is needed allowing even more energy savings and C02.

The car park, which exists for one year is distinguished by its location in the middle of a bustling town close to crowded places such as shopping area ‘Koopgoot’. Interparking won the European Parking Award in the category of new parking structures. The jury assessed the car parks on the following aspects; location, user friendliness, quality and safety.
The parking garage underneath the Market Hall has nearly 1.200 places and is equipped with the latest technology, including LED lighting. Rentalite will equip the parking garage with 1654 Premium Power LED V fixtures. The PPL V has a beam angle of 240 degrees instead of the standard 160 degrees. This creates a wider light distribution from 1 fixture, therefore a larger surface is illuminated from one point and there is a nice uniformity of the lighting in the garage. The energy savings that will occur by placing the LED lighting in the garage is 50% and results in a financial savings of tens of thousands of euros per year.

Hornton Street Car Park, managed by VINCI Park UK, located in the heart of Kensington London has been recently refurbished with Rentalite’s Premium Power LED lighting. The new LED lighting system uses movement sensors at the entrance and exits of the car park, the lights illuminate between 70 and 100% as cars and pedestrians pass under the detectors, the LED lights then automatically dim down from the highest setting to the lowest at 10% when no motion is detected around the car park. The new installation will over time save VINCI Park UK up to 70% energy over a year.
